while 2k games is still patching civ V, it looks like their next venture is in social networking games. public beta just opened, i've been giving it a try. you don't build your own civilization, but instead your own city. you can join a civilization and take part in votes for civics and wars, and work with other cities to build and produce things.

so far imo, it's very slow paced and there's lots of bugs. but the art is well done and i think it has potential. however, because it's free it has "civbucks" which you have to pay real money for, and considering what you can buy with them the game is pretty much pay-to-win, which cheapens the game. although they do have a cap on how much you can spend on the game per day. i believe it's 10 civbucks, but i'm not sure how much real money you have to pay to get that.

anyone else give it a try let me know. i'm not sure how many "worlds" there are and if you can join mine, but i'm the current leader of the japanese empire on a world called "dowry".

my recommendation to anyone starting out is to focus on maxing out on food harvests so you can get your population up quickly. the best way to get food quickly is to build orchards on 2 or more adjacent water tiles (+10 food for each adjacent water tile)
