Really curious to hear the song Touch. It's probably the worst received song from the new album...which finally comes out May 17th in Australia so thanks to time zones, the album should definitely be online sometime in the next five days. I'm amazed (and disappointed) the album hasn't leaked yet.

Some reviewers didn't like it because they thought it sounded too...

Daft Punk released a new teaser video AND the album will be streamed tonight via iTunes. BBC Radio 1 will also reveal new tracks from the album at 7pm BST...which is 6am PST...which is now. o_O

BBC Radio 1: [LINK]

So we'll finally get to hear the fucking album in some form. It officially releases May 17th in Australia so the non-stream version should be online sometime in the next few days thanks to time zone differences.

Edit-

Pitchfork will air some cover story about Daft Punk tomorrow.

reminder that pretty much every daft punk album was canned/disregarded on release and hailed as a classic years later

also most of you have been giving in to too much hype. that's kind of daft punk's fault though

im pretty happy with this. its like they're a real band now, very enjoyable album overall. not the most sonically interesting thing i've ever heard in anyway, but daft punk's music has never really been super "interesting," their music has always been really about being simple and catchy, and this album definitely shows that.

just got done listening to it for the first time

i'm really tempted to make a judgement about the entire album right now, but i've often changed my mind about albums after listening to them a few more times. i will say though that "fragments of time" at the moment is my favorite song

just got done listening to it for the first time

i'm really tempted to make a judgement about the entire album right now, but i've often changed my mind about albums after listening to them a few more times. i will say though that "fragments of time" at the moment is my favorite song

todd edwards really helped make that track awesome, it definitely reminded me of face to face when he collabed with them last. his vocal worked so well with the rest of the instrumental, and the way the vocal was chopped up was really nice, and reminded me a lot of of edwards' solo stuff (as well as face to face).

the ending of contact might have been my favorite part of the album, although i felt that earlier on the song seemed a little cheesy, particularly with the ridiculous live drums that just felt a little over the top. however I think the best track just has to be get lucky, and if it wasn't for the fact that we've all heard it a million times already i think that would be a lot more clear. obviously its going to be a matter of opinion regardless, but in terms of what everyone wanted (without realizing it) to hear the most I think that's got to be the winner.

other highlights for me were motherboard which just included so many cool sounds and instruments in a really neat way, despite being kind of a background track it seems. Doin' it right sounded like a near perfect collab between daft punk and animal collective, combining the classic daft punk sound flawlessly with panda bear's vocals. nile rodgers's golden touch on the intro track was also great to hear, and im glad they didn't just use him for get lucky. lose yourself to dance was decent, although i have to say when i sped the song up a little bit I feel like i was enjoying it much better. i also thought the vocoder in that track was one of the best uses outside of get lucky.

one of my biggest problems with this album is I feel like they overused the vocoder a bit and there were a lot of times where it felt a little too cheesy.

another interesting thing about this album is how many many parts of it felt like a soundtrack to a movie, which isn't really a good or a bad thing, however I feel like it gives the songs a lot of potential for video to accompany them, and i can't wait to see what kind of music videos they put out for this album.

yeah, i've listened to it a few times and i think i can say how i feel about it now. i mostly like it, there are few things that bother me: the talking in "giorgio by moroder" - i don't feel like this kind of stuff belongs on an album. it's distracting and adds nothing to the track. second, pharrell's vocals in "lose yourself to dance" - his vocals are almost cringeworthy, thankfully the track is kind of saved when it starts to pick up later  but they definitely could have found someone better to sing those parts.. pharrell sounds like a wannabe michael jackson. lastly, the vocals in touch are just creepy and i don't like them. otherwise it's a good track. overall i think the album is pretty good and a good installation to daft punk's discography. now, i just hope to see some awesome music videos and hopefully another new album that isn't a soundtrack or a live recording in less than 8 years..

After listening to this album twice, I can say with all honesty that this might be the best album they ever made, but as much as I love this album... I was hoping the prog elements were stronger on this record (no song segues? D:), I miss the excellent pacing of Get Lucky's single version, and I don't like Pharrell Williams' vocals in Lose yourself to Dance. Works well with the song, but I never liked that vocal style which was very present in the disco era so my criticism toward his vocals is more of a style preference than anything else. I have zero complaints about his vocals in Get Lucky though. He did an excellent job singing that song. In retrospect, I find it kind of funny so many people complained about wanting hear more of the robots and less of Pharrell Williams in Get Lucky because the album has more vocoder vocals from the duo than any of their other albums. Can't wait until the album's CD gets ripped and put on the web so I can stop listening to some pirated iTunes stream.

awesome music videos

they said that they wouldn't release any music videos for this album in the interview that was linked in this thread a while back

i think the album has a couple of great songs and a couple of bad ones, seems like they didn't put much thought into the tracklisting with all those downtempo songs in the beginning (and having game of love on the album at all, what a shitty fucking track)
