the transition to this forum did not go 100% smoothly.. i smoothed out all the bugs that i could find, but i'm sure i did not find them all.
if you find a bug, please post it here with the following information:
- what you tried to do
- the error that happened when you tried to do it
- your browser and version
thank you.

dunno how relevant this is but i went into your upload thread, no pictures were showing up and it looked like this. i'm not even sure if there were sketches in this exact post but they aren't anywhere on those pages anyway.
stays like that until page 50.

this forum is not autosizing your sigs or your avatars. please make sure they are size appropriate, because some are looking terrible

this is an issue with the old attachments system. even though it's a relic, i did manage to recover all the attachments from the old forum. why they're not displaying i'm not sure. they're in the database and everything. i'll see if i can fix it, but afaic it's a minor issue because i replaced file attachments with the filedump some time ago, and i plan to implement the filedump in better ways in this forum to make uploading and displaying work easier.

i saw those posts fine before the new forum so they weren't just out dated, i don't think so at least. also i can see everything page 50 and on.
-
two big bugs squashed tonight. all PM's from IPB weren't showing up in inboxes, and the home page of the site needed to be updated to fit the new architecture. both solved. changelog will be updated on the first post of this thread every time i fix some bugs so you guys know what i've covered already.
-
The filedump tells me to log in, although the top right corner says that I am logged in so I can't use it :(.
-
yes i know. i will be fixing it today.

karma is now pizza. pizza points. yes.
-
I have no idea why but nonzop's post had me laughing for five minutes.
Also yay Quick-Reply is back.
-
Er, I dunno if this is an issue for other people, but SMF seems to fail at remembering I want to be signed in forever :(
Also yay! Pizza points! :D
-
i like the new features a lot, but miss the old skin :(
is this one temporary?
-
i like the new features a lot, but miss the old skin :(
is this one temporary?
yes of course. i will start reskinning tonight.
-
ok so whats the new way of directly embedding youtube vids into your sig/posts etc?
-
ok so whats the new way of directly embedding youtube vids into your sig/posts etc?
this is explained in the welcome thread.
-
ok, this is an extremely crude layout for now, but i think it's enough for tonight just to re-establish the dark theme that we all missed.
over the next few days i'll be polishing it and updating the icons appropriately.
-
file dump is fixed now as well.
-
i skipped to the bottom of this thread because white + light grey text is almost unreadable
idk if that is a bug??? i'm using the latest version of GOOGLE CHROME
-
nvm it's sort of fixed now i guess (the layout is still fucked up and ugly though)
-
yeah its almost impossible to read browser firefox 6.0.2.
The font has changed but the layout is still white. Maybe it will still be a while for the skin to be up.
Will try deleting cache and all that junk.
yeah it was my problem it still had the same skin it started with.
-
the layout should not still be white for anyone. if you think something is unreadable or not the way it should be, please take a screenshot.
-
whenever i leave tba for like 5 minutes when i come back i'm logged out even when i set it to keep me logged in forever
it's kind of annoying but idk if it's a bug or not
-
it's probably a bug. i'll see what i can do about it.
edit: i made a new cookie. you'll have to log back in one more time but this should resolve the issue.
-
not sure how to even log out
edit: actually it logged me out a second ago so it's probably fixed now
-
locked threads appear in the default theme
-
i had to close the forums a bit again to do the major reskinning work. the board index, thread lists and thread view are reskinned, as well as the major overall theme. some pages like the posting page and the user control panel i haven't looked at yet, but they should at least be useable.
and i also have to replace a lot of icons.
i will also restore the smileys tomorrow.
-
I pasted some text and it doesn't show up. But I think its just a font issue from where I copied it from. Just that when I paste it some parts of it can be read if I cut out certain words. Its not a big deal just been trying to narrow it down to something.
I narrowed it down to it being ' but just in some font that no one will ever care about.
-
the forum is exploding!
I'll just assume you're working on it at the moment
-
If the page looks weird, the best solution is to press F5 a couple of times to clear the cache. If it remains borked then yeah, it's probably rtil messing about :]

It's really annoying that the posts are off-set with the avatars.

It was on the forum sections page, everything was squished into one 1 inch wide column thing. I came back an hour later and it was fixed. Probably just a cache issue like Shida said or my browser being weird
Anyways, I second what psi said
-
actually I think its one of those ascii things the site doesn't support. its a ' but it is leaned to right a bit. ill use the weird ' but anything after it will not come out. It happens in both quick reply and normal.

yeah , sounds like a cache issue. i wouldnt' have opened the forum back up if it wasn't navigable.

-
lol, that's odd. how do you even make one of those without doing an alt key?
-
i wonder if there's a problem with ascii stuff in general.. i sure hope not.
it looks like it automatically deletes any 'wild' characters from your post after you make it. that means no cool smileys and stuff.. i'll have to figure out how to change that.

It was just something I tried to copy and paste I guess blizzard uses it. I was like wtf where did it go. I should of print screened earlier lol.
I assumed it was a lot of things. At first I thought because of italics or something weird then fonts then finally narrowed it down.

it was a data type error. i believe i may have just fixed it though. try it now!

i noticed us golden oldies have a cassette and excited for the prospect of new awards. what others did you have in mind as ideas and do you want any help making some icons for them/around the site
-
if someone comes up with a good idea for an award, i'll certainly give them the opportunity to make the icon for it. i have a few ideas in mind, like people who have participated in tba flash collabs and i might as well throw girl gamer in there since i got rid of the member group.
but yes, definitely open to suggestions. my only requirement for award icons is that they fit in 34x34 pixels , and preferably pixel art.
-
One more thing I forgot to mention - I'm not sure if this is just my browser being dumb again or not, but smileys don't seem to work at all
test: :( :)
edit: yeah, not working
-
yeah, i have not fixed smileys yet. i'll let you know when i do.

I think you could make a pizza points one - like each time someone has recieved a pizza, they get an extra button or something. So if someone has 200+ points and they have recieved their 2 pizzas, they'd have two pizza icons. That sorta thing. Helps keep track of who has recieved what I guess.
-
My session keeps fucking up whenever I try to make a post, it says session has expired or something. But that seemed to be on google chrome, I am logged in with firefox and seems okay for now.
-
i'm aware of session issues. i don't know how to fix it currently. clearing caches and deleting cookies while logging back in is my best suggestion
-
the rest of the forum has been reskinned minus icons. i might make some more minor pages along the way, but as far as i know all the page layouts should look good. if you see something that looks wrong please show me.
i also installed a mod that automatically resizes images that are too large to fit a post. it's better than the old resizer. this one is faster and also resizes dynamically with the window.
-
will the name colors return?
-
probably not. don't see the point
-
i will post nudes if i reach 100 points (pinky promise)
bug here: chicken has pizza point access
-
a lot of times when i try to post i get the error:
The following error or errors occurred while posting this message:

can there be an anime princess award :3c
also when i log onto tba in chrome, it looks all weird. i don't know if this issue has been addressed yet because i don't feel like looking

if you haven't tried refreshing a bunch of times go into the history section and delete everything (there should be options to get rid of things aside from just cookies)
If that doesn't work then I dunno
-
yeah it should not look like that at all. do a full refresh (ctrl+f5 usually)
-
no work D:
-
ok.. try going to tools > options > clear browsing data and check only "empty the cache" , then ctrl+f5 again
-
eureka! that did it
thank you rtil-chan ^-^

"You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 1"
-
i haven't gotten around to fixing that yet. it needs to be updated to coincide with the new database
-
I keep forgetting to bring this up - when I try to delete anything from the file dump, I check the boxes I want for the ones that I want to get rid of, click delete, and then I just get a message that says '0 items deleted'. I was going to screencap it, but there's isn't anything wrong aside from what I just said
-
thanks for letting me know. i'll look into it tonight. in the mean time, deleting individual files with the red X should work.
-
For uploaded music in the file dump, the player isn't working correctly and it won't play any music.
-
try it now, should be fine.
-
Still having problems loading mp3 files.
Edit-
Actually, the whole site is running insanely slow for me right now.
Edit-
Works fine now and the site is now running much better.
-
registration is fixed, and some of the lingering session issues should go away as well.

re-introduced the post ranks. they're just images now, no text. shows your previous rank, current and next. like battlefield! fuckin hardcore right
-
not anime enough
-
oh wait i take that back i still see that i am sugoi staff sergeant on my profile
-
there is a new bbcode called only_members. pretty self explanatory - if you want something you post to be hidden from forum guests, put it between those bbcode tags.
-
nevermind! B)
-
i dunno if this has been addressed already but:
on the main page, in the Recent posts column, whenever there's a new post, it's date is always fucked up for me, it only shows hours, and if i would make a post, it wouldn't say 1 minute ago, but rather 6 hours ago (that's the least it can get), it's probably because of the different timezone, still, it's bugging me
-
Go to forum Profile, go to look and layout then click on auto detect. You will travel back to your rightful time!
I had to do this yesterday oddly enough.
-
nothing happened
-
editeditietied: ugh wtf
how did i post this in the wrong thread
-
autoplays are back! under [ autoplay ] bbcode ;)
-
-
flash embedding is back and better than it was before. use the [ swf ] bbcode tag. dimensions not needed, it will get them for you!

source: www.thebackalleys.com | size: 459.14 KB | dimensions: 550x400

autoplays don't seem to loop
-
mp3's don't. i could make them loop if i wanted, it's a very simple code change.
but i would prefer people don't use mp3's. how people used to make autoplays was with swf's with looping streamed sound. if you make them that way, they will loop

-
recent chat activity is functioning properly again
next up: fixing the livestream tracker
-
livestream tracker is fixed. channels are also now tied to user accounts, you can see who owns each channel on the streams page. this will reflect on your profile at some point as well.
this does mean that if you are streaming live the notification bar will start to pop up again like it used to, so people browsing the site know you're streaming and can watch.
http://www.thebackalleys.com/streams/ (http://www.thebackalleys.com/streams/)
soon i will also add a form on this page where you can submit a livestream to be tracked pending approval by me. if added it will be automatically tied to your account.
if anyone is curious as to why it broke, it is because livestream's API added new restrictions based on how often their server could be queried for data on livestream channels. i was going over these new limits and it caused the script to slow down and malfunction. so i had to code a new version that calculated how many times per day i could query for new data on each channel without breaking the limit. this is recalculated every time the script is run, which is every 2 minutes. at the moment, with 25 streams being tracked, the current refresh rate is 4 minutes - i should probably reflect that somewhere on the streams page itself.
as more streams are added, the refresh rate will eventually rise, but very slowly. it is calculated to stay comfortably underneath 10,000 queries to the livestream server per day. right now it queries their servers 9,000 times per day.
-
why is cloudeater's stream approved
-
i didn't know it was his until tonight. i'll delete it, doesnt look like he uses it anyway
-
i would stream but the FUCKING RUSSIANS!! are destroying my internet
-
your file dump (http://www.thebackalleys.com/dump) is now paginated. each page shows 50 files per page. pagination for folders and search function coming up next.
-
a more noticeable change, the links at the top of every page underneath the banner have been simplified. no more drop down menus, just 7 main links for now.
put your mouse over the number bubbles by the forum and the chat - you'll get a little explanation as to what they are :) it's a good indicator of forum and chat activity imo.
if there is no number bubble by the chat, it means that there is no chat activity or the chat stats have not been updated in the last 10 minutes - something that happens if mikubot goes down or i lose internet connection. the forum bubble will never disappear
-
Just to clarify, I'm not sure if its just me or not, but the total # of posts for the forum and chat are kind of cut off a little bit. And I can't find the file dump to upload my screenshot hah
edit: Well, between the time I clicked reply and wrote this out, you fixed it
-
your filedump is in the link that says "filedump"

edit: this
(http://www.thebackalleys.com/dump/files/1830/339T1c_tbaBar.png)
doesn't matter though, gone now. Probably just something acting up
-
it is caused by your browser. it was not refreshing the cache of the css file and so the styles were outdated. a hard refresh usually fixes this immediately
-
the tutorials (http://www.thebackalleys.com/tutorials) section is viewable again. i'm not sure if any of the posting tools function yet but i'm moving on to that next.
-
i didn't know it was his until tonight. i'll delete it, doesnt look like he uses it anyway
D:
-
well you don't!

cloudeater is a big faker!!!

That actually makes the entire website look a lot more compact and slick in my opinion, nicely done. Also thanks for finally integrating a page system to the filedump, now i can finally open mine with my laptop, seeing as I have around 725 files on there, my laptop would crash every time i opened it before.
e. Oh yeah, it still doesn't update for me though. It used to update the list right after I uploaded a file, for quite some time now it stopped doing that and forces me to reload the page in order to see the file listed there.
-
Just something I noticed that maybe be intended but when you preview a message the text is very hard to read it is almost the same color as board.

that should be fixed now. if you still see it do a cache refresh (ctrl+f5)

I noticed that like a million years ago I didnt kno it was a mistake I probly would have said something if I had :s

if anything is hard to read please do tell me, i never intend that

autoplays turn the scrollbar blue in chrome
-
they turn black for me. this is an issue i dont think i can fix, the problem is that if you embed anything other than a swf it does this. it may just be something we have to live with as i think it's an issue with the plugin/browser compatability

A bit more blue ain't a big deal

couldn't you test it with the forum software or something
like a blank slate and see if the same shit happens
or ask SMF support
idk
-
well it's not a problem with smf, it's a problem with the plugin - chrome uses its own plugin to playback these things and for some reason it causes the bar to go black (i've seen it outside of smf)
plus, i coded the bbcode for autoplays, so they wouldnt offer me support for it even if it was the problem
-
ok now the whole damn page just turns fucking blue whenever there's an autoplay
-
this is a problem with the latest version of chrome
-
people should just stop using autoplays for now
please
-
i would appreciate that if you do use an autoplay it's in the form of a swf , hell i could hard code that in if i wanted to , it's the mp3's that is fucking up the page

allie covers up the updates thing in the top left corner in google chrome latest and i can't see shit (not that i would read it even if i could, but it's still broken)

nvm it works now
sorta

ctrl+f5, everything should be fine. if it isn't, take a screenshot.

that is a problem with the current build of chrome, but yes it is very annoying.

that's weird, all of tba is looking normal here, and i also use 13.0.1 on mac osx.
-
I'm actually getting the same thing with chrome
same here (except my os is 7 ult)
-
that wasn't a browser specific issue but rather some problem with my code. it should be gone now.
-
added a [ soundcloud ] bbcode tag because i felt like it. all you do is paste the embed HTML that soundcloud gives you from the "share" button into [ soundcloud ] [ /soundcloud ] bbcode tags without the spaces, and it should embed the player.

two filedump changes:
- folders can now be viewed by someone other than the owner if given the link
- files in folders can now be moved back to the main file list with the "no folder (root)" menu selection

when i click this button: (http://thebackalleys.com/forum/Themes/tba_v6/images/english/new.png)
in google chrome, it doesnt bring me to the new post it brings me to the top of the page that the new post is on.
i dont know if this can be helped but i just thought i'd make a post about it anyway.
-
try marking a forum as read, and then waiting for someone to post. if it still does that, i'm not sure what's going on.

fixed a problem with the filedump (http://www.thebackalleys.com/dump/) involving an error with files that had extensions longer or shorter than 3 characters. you can now upload this with no problems now.
the funhouse (http://www.thebackalleys.com/forum/index.php?topic=12246) is now even worse! shadow adorns the top of the page of the page with a special message for the trolls. everyone's avatar is now sanic - with rings, item boxes and chaos emeralds galore beneath!
-

OPPS I also forgot to circle the pizza point button is sitting literally on top of the comments of each persons posts
-
browser/version please
-
Windows Explorer 9 :]
-
please turn compatibility mode off. it is an icon that looks like a ripped piece of paper and it should be in the url box.
-
two updates:
- the quote database (http://www.thebackalleys.com/quotes) now has a search function. try it!
- quotes no longer have forward slashes before single quotes
-
two new bbcode tags: [ nsfw ] and [ spoilerimg ], use these for images in topics where a topic is not marked nsfw but you'd like to post a nsfw image, and add a spoiler image outside of spoiler text (sometimes images do not work inside spoiler tags). click to reveal them! here's a sample:

-
I dunno if this is by design but i click the spoiler image once to reveal the actual image, and clicking it again makes the image disappear altogether
but yeah that's probably by design
-
The spoiler image was shown before the Allie picture covered it. Maybe I just need to refresh.

that's a little strange as the element itself isn't a picture and it should load before the image does.

no that's not supposed to happen. i'll fix that thanks
-
ok, both bugs you guys were experiencing should be fixed now.
-
the image disappearing after a second click might be a good idea for the nsfwimg tag incase you're a baby and can't handle the image

do these also work for sigs? reason:
-
like i'm gonna nsfwimg my own sig
-
well, that would be silly yes but actually i'm not sure what would happen if they were put in a sig, because a sig has image size limits but the script grabs the width and height of the original image. so it would probably make his sig larger
and i know that i've let you keep that sig for a while slack, but it is true that it is nsfw, and there are people browsing this forum at school and work or whatnot - i think it would be best if there weren't boobs in your sig so that people can browse without worrying about it
-
AUGUAGUGUAGUAUGUAGUAUGUAUGAGAGAUGUGAUAGAUGAUAGUAGUUAGAUGAGUAGAGUAUAUAGUG
ps thanks for tellin on me you son of a bitch
-
sorry :(
-
sorry slack
-
So far it's bug free. Well, not my room. There's a damn moth in here. :/
But seriously, this forum does not seem to have glitches or bugs that interfere with my usage of this site, so I'm happy. :sup:

kiss more ass why don't ya

i clicked the oekaki to do a doodle and this appeared instead...also I box popped up saying 5+ and the sprite girl winked. I think she messed up the page?? idk
-
there's a very good chance that she did. the odds of that happening are extremely low, but i will see if i can fix it. i know what the problem is just by looking at this and it's a tad tricky.
-
Allie doing Allie things, I see nothing incorrect here.
-
(http://www.thebackalleys.com/dump/files/3048/102Wz4_New%20canvas.png)
its been like that since i signed up, unless its supposed to be there, in which case sorry i fucked up.
-
it's not.
browser/version, please?
-
chrome, version 28.0.1500.71
apologies for 3days late
-
huh that's weird, that's what i use , too. is it on a mac? they render text differently and that might have something to do with it.
-
no no, awfully sorry, im not using a mac
-
tried to get the soundcloud thing to work myself and this happened.
i clicked on preview again and it seemed to work but then the error comes back when i try to post.
version is 29.0.1547.57 for chrome on windows.
-
just add some text or something outside of the soundcloud tag. that's the best i can do right now
-
youtube video links that start with the "https" prefix should now embed. sorry for not fixing this simple thing a long time ago. youtube copypaste urls usually have the https prefix now, so it's easier this way
-
What if I don't want my youtube links to embed?
*snarky expression*
-
link to mobile youtube might work
-
Hmm, what about youtu.be? Last I remember those don't actually embed properly. Testing:
http://youtu.be/4NRik--cMJY (http://youtu.be/4NRik--cMJY)
yep.
-
probably nothing i can do about that.. but i don't see those versions of youtube links very often
-
Nah it's fine, Bam was probably asking for youtube links that dont embed as a joke but that'd probably come in handy for when you want to post a bunch of video links at once and not slowdown the thread. Btw, the share feature of youtube videos should actually default to this format now.
-
yeah but i figure most people are just copy pasting links because it's less clicks
-
My question was serious as cancer.
-
then i will leave youtu.be links alone
-
Thanks now I'm cured.
-
i've installed "pretty urls" on the forums. you'll notice that links for threads, boards and user profiles are cleaner and more intuitive. if you notice any bugs please let me know.
-
quick reply was broken for a little bit but it's back in working condition now.
-
I like the new URLs they are pretty.
Also what does "Hide enclosed from Suspicious Visitors" do? I'm just noticing this. Does it just hide text from guests?

oh the bbcode (http://www.thebackalleys.com/forum/Themes/tba_v7/images/bbc/badbehavior_bbc.gif). it's for hiding things from spam harvesters and bots. so if, for example, you posted a website or email that you didn't want to get attacked by spam, the link would be hidden from those IP's. at the bottom of this page, you can see how many thousands of bots get blocked from the site every day.
-
Oh, that makes sense. Cool.
-
i love these new URLs, they're so stylish and trendy
-
I like this very much, sir. Well done.
-
the fancy url's have been in place for a few months now. i forgot if i ever announced it.
-
uploader for filedump isnt working, what do I do?
-
use imgur until i feel like fixing it
-
sorry folks, youtube embedding is disabled until further notice. google recently deprecated their old API which broke probably millions of plugins/apps that used it, and that includes what i was using. i'm currently looking for a new solution
-
youtube video embedding has been restored. all you need is the youtube url link. same with pretty much every other video site as well.
-
irc related: TBAllie updates
- updated backend and running on ubuntu
- shows like/dislike ratio % and colors like Mikubot used to
- .yt youtube search now supports spaces
- some other unimportant functions that didn't used to work should now work (like .mangle)
-
imagefit is working again. i think.
what this used to do was automatically resize an image to fit inside the with of the post. which should mean no more ugly horizontal scrollbars in posts.
-
minor updates to the quote db (http://www.thebackalleys.com/quotes):
- individual quote pages lines are now breaking properly
- next to each votescore is a breakdown of the # of upvotes and downvotes
-
Having issues uploading mp3 files. Whenever I try, now I get "could not open file ___________________.mp3" for the files I attempt to upload. Any idea what might be causing this issue? Any alternative music format worth using as a substitute for when the file dump doesn't want to accept mp3's?

i'm not sure, i can't replicate the issue. what browser are you using? does it happen with every mp3? it could also be a filename issue.

I'm using Google Chrome and it happens with every mp3 file I attempt to upload regardless of file name.

i've lowered the # of posts required to give pizza points from 100 to 25
