well midgets might be acceptable for certain people who believe in silly things like 'all humans are born equal' (some are born degenerate) and 'everyone should be accepted for who they are' (tolerance for mental instabilities)

but me, i wear a set of special anti-midget stilts, provided to me by the anti-midget league

they enforce my own superior height, and are specially engineered for kicking midgets

because, as midget_lover_analmaster696969 once bravely said, "fuck midgets"

they 'said' someone is making AAA titles, but that ties into my point: you'll see a couple gimmicky big titles, maybe a wave of knock-offs, and then it will fall flat on its face because it won't make back the production costs. until i see it, i won't believe it.

the only example off the top of my head which could work is star citizen, but while the Oculus Rift needs Star Citizen, Star Citizen does not need the Oculus Rift - if SC were to be cancelled the day after tomorrow for some unspecified reason, it would be disastrous for the OR, but if the OR was cancelled because zuckerberg said so, it would have almost no effect whatsoever on the development of SC, in fact it could possibly even be a good thing

300$ for a peripheral = too expensive to hit it off with a large enough crowd to warrant large budget games, unless you just sell games which cost 100-150$ a pop to support it, doesn't that seem a bit ridiculous to you when poverty is on the rise in western nations, the primary consumers of shit like this?

VR sucked before, and it will suck again, everything i've seen from the OR has been sub-par at best and every tech demo has been practically garbage, the OR itself was jury-rigged from spare parts, the only difference now is that i will be able to browse facebook while jerking off to furries in second life - and that's what's scary, this is all a really huge deal but i just don't see any substance to it yet working on a 2 billion dollar scale

Quotewhat about the social impact of being able to feel you're in the same room with a person, and by using this device it might create a stronger sense of familiarity? wouldn't the same idea help people with social anxiety? what about someone getting over their fear of heights by being exposed to a situation where they really feel like they're going to fall? what about the burn victim that had help dealing with her pain by being put into a virtual environment that was surrounded by ice that comforted and distracted her? what about the ability to experience the implications of a historical first hand, rather than reading about it?

the oculus rift does none of this, but this was basically what i mean with 'escapism' - you don't solve the problems (sociel anxiety, severe burns), you sweep it under the rug and look the other way, and the OR doesn't do a good job at it currently, and neither will it upon release. it's a stepping stone at best, but a crappy headset in any scenario.

like really, whatever possibilities there are, the OR won't realize them - whatever comes after it might, but that's why it's so fucking important for the OR to stop being a waste

i mean really, this doesn't do shit for transhumanism or whatever either, unless you consider the matrix to be the epitome of human existence, but frankly we're more likely to see our planet reduced to a radioactive flare within the next one hundred years than to be collectively plugged into a calculator

also, last i heard nasa were looking into 3D-printers which can spit out meals on the fly for space missions, combining that with a power pitcher to shoot an XL mcfucker from the kitchen and into your waiting grubby catcher's mitt (hugely obese hand) is still more likely than convincing VR... but the two aren't mutually exclusive, maybe you could 3D print a furry sex doll for your wacky second life antics after replacing your eyeballs with a pair of mobile devices Firmly Lodged In2 Cranium, so you won't have to worry about social anxiety because you'll be set for life in your very own 4 by 4 closet

oh god the thought of it just makes me wish putin would hurry up and nuke us already

Virtual Reality is a gimmick which will never become completely mainstream

this discredits your whole argument.

Really now?

VR is escapism, like most other forms of entertainment media, but to be functional it needs to be strapped on top of pre-existing hardware/software, or additional resources have to be pooled in to make something from the ground up for it to be actually good.

It's like 3D cinemas, it's annoying to watch, more expensive, and is usually just half-assed. Is the technology cool? Sure, but it's redundant and doesn't add anything.

OR has up until now been riding on the mobile technology industry, "feeding off the scraps" or however that guy put it, and it's true. It isn't a tool, it isn't convenient, it's a luxury on top of other luxuries. Can it float? Sure it can, just like how people who produce dragon dildos can stay in business just fine, by appealing to a niché which most established companies would stay away from.

Anyway, here's the problem as I see it: video games are expensive to develop, and expensive to stay up to date with (hardware, online requirements, additional software licensing, subscription fees etc...), which is why almost everything with a large budget is multi-platform, to reach as broad a market as possible. But as far as I'm concerned, this has really only led to a decline in entertainment quality, the only fun game to come out this year is probably Goat Simulator or some other dumb shit, which was essentially a joke.

So sure, let's say the Oculus Rift comes out, and it doesn't require a facebook account, and maybe it's actually a pretty decent piece of tech at an affordable price. So far, we've seen a few tech demos and things cobbled together to show the potential, right? Maybe there will be one or two big titles with built-in support for it, and some funny little indie things that let you, i don't know, jerk off your friends in minecraft or whatever. Afterwards? You won't see shit. It's not going to be compatible with any of the major consoles, which will have their own sub-par VR sets more than likely, it isn't compatible with mobile gaming ("guys i can play angry birds in VR on my iphone this is the best ever!"), it most certainly isn't going to be worthwhile for the sake of movies, and TV series won't spit in any more money to let a couple nerds with dumb headgear get FULLY IMMERSED in whatever crap show is going to be big next.

What that leaves is a tiny demographic of people who can throw money at dumb shit. Off the top of my head, the OR in its current form will probably work best for military aircraft simulators without the need to build a full cockpit, where graphics aren't necessarily the most important thing so whoever is developing it can focus more on making it work with the appropriate systems rather than full-blown expenditure on making it look fancy... both for the simulators itself, and the peripherals.

Other than that? First-person shooters, maybe? Some kind of sex simulator? What the fuck else are you supposed to use it for? It's pointless for 2D games, and doesn't work with most genres of 3D games, you can't invite friends over to share it either making it anti-social in an already anti-social culture.

For VR to work, it has to be part of the process from the ground up, and right now I seriously doubt that's feasible. Like I said, it will take decades before you can expect to get both reasonable creative output supporting it as well as technology that is reliable and compact enough to not make you look like an idiot with a turd taped to your eyeballs. By that point, we might as well have holographic projectors - that's something I could get behind.

i sincerely doubt this

i think, at the very least, augmented reality will become a part of most people's lives at some point in the future

Google Glass has a much greater chance of success than the Oculus Rift, because it's essentially a natural evolution from current handheld devices, and has a wide range of potentially useful applications, like causing cancer in Glassholes worldwide. Lawsuits re: "Glasscancer" are an inevitability, calling it now.

AR =/= VR

Keep in mind 3D-printing ties into AR quite nicely too, suddenly you can play World of Warcraft in your back yard as the computer spits out your loot for the day, while also 3D-printing your hot pockets, as nanomachines break down atmospheric waste and organic matter down and restructures it to seperate the different components and uses it to stock up the 3D-printer. That's sci-fi as fuck, but its more likely to be a thing than VR simply because of the wide range of uses.

this website is gay lmao

yes well you see everyone who is not a sexual deviant was either banned or left in disgust at all the revolting hentai posted by the transvestite troupe which effectively turned a once thriving community into a barren wasteland of people not wearing pants and hentai midgets

rtil didn't ban me because i'm apparently a misogynist who gets off to punching women, that's pretty deviant

i'm also the best at not wearing pants, but competition is fierce - the transvestite troupe have all invested in cheap skirts by now, which don't count as pants

I was like "maybe", now I'm all "nah". Zuckerberg is an asshole tech faggot and everyone knows it already, but Virtual Reality is a gimmick which will never become completely mainstream, even though it will more than likely be a staple of sexually confused furries jerking off to inflation-vore in Second Life. Maybe I'll give it another chance ten years down the line when it doesn't suck so much and isn't a huge brick stuck on your forehead with a giant strap. Until then, it's probably cheaper and cooler to just make a cockpit or something. Less chance of knocking over your refreshments that way, need to stay hydrated while FIGHTING.

tbh the only thing i feel isn't that good with what you ordinarily do, is that your coloration seems really iffy at times and you're a little inconsistent

like the skitzo the bear posters are pretty decent, but that bathroom doodle is really messy due to the way it's colored and shaded

shit it might not even be so much the colors as it is the shading

your last picture there of the 'enviable young lady' is quite well-done and funny, the way you draw can be functional enough so it's not like you can't do good linework

you see what i mean, right? if you look at your bathroom doodle and the different pools and streaks of blood, some of it is outlined and some of it isn't, making it kind of inconsistent

line strengths and such are also inconsistent, this can be used to effect to draw attention etc but in your doodle it doesn't really work that way and combined with the coloration being a mess it end up looking really off

by comparison your skitzo posters are far more consistent in their linework and colors, so they look much better

i mean yeah it's a DOODLE, so that's fine, but imo color and the way you shade is by far your weakest points, and i'm pretty sure you can do it better because you do show this from time to time

also re: ghibli, one thing they've largely done right from what i've seen is that they don't fill their shit with annoying squealing jar jar binks comedy relief characters AND THANK FUCK FOR THAT BECAUSE IT DOES A LOT TO MAKE THINGS WATCHABLE IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO GET PISSED OFF AT IT

you're going to disagree with me because it's anime

wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong

i don't hate anime for the sake of it being japanese, i hate anime because the vast majority of it is garbage and extremely guilty of the whole fetish fuel/retard magnet routine, they have competent animators which sometimes show a spark of ingenuity and a desire to reach out and do something new, but then it immediately falls back to the same tried and true same-faced approach, squealing characters and predictable plot lines, pretty much pissing on whatever semblance of quality they might be able to establish, and this is has become doubly true for the vast majority of their animation industry ever since the late 90s and early 2000s, which incidentally is the same time period western cartoon went into a decline as well

ghibli is one of the few exceptions to this trend but i don't feel they're consistent enough to be a good basis for this, and they still largely follow a formula aimed at a specific culture and don't do as well with other audiences who are not familiar with it

disney is incredibly simple and follow stereotypes to the point where they can be accused of racism but in most cases it is recognizable enough, that isn't to say that i enjoy or give a shit about every disney movie but rather that they're watchable at any time and many of them have aged quite well, which is pretty important since most movies become obsolete more quickly if they're made for the times rather than being timeless (which is why none of the current hollywood AAA-pigshit will be worth preserving in the future)

that isn't to say that ghibli (as the most prominent example) isn't trying to do the same thing, both they and disney have varying degrees of success but ghibli restricts itself by largely following japanese culture, customs and history, and has even received a lot of flak in japan for this with "grave of the fireflies" and more recently "the wind rises" because it SOILED THE IMAGE OF GREAT JAPANESE EMPIRE even though the movies themselves were quite nicely done in a lot of ways

also, while not 2D, pixar made several incredibly good movies and shorts before they were bought up/merged with disney, after which they started being more hit or miss, but they've still done a pretty good job of proving that 3D can tell a story just as well ans advanced 3D animation to a point where there aren't really any advantages to using 2D as long as you apply the correct techniques - that isn't to say that they cannot co-exist, but 3D has a more expansive area of application which makes it a much safer bet when the people who work on it can easily be relegated to other duties, which makes it very easy to phase out 2D in favor of 3D for a lot of companies (which can be a good or a bad thing)

the reason i like a lot of 80s shows in particular is because at the time they were afraid to experiment with different imagery, even if the shows themselves were practically garbage with no lasting sustainability (omfg silverhawks) they're still very recognizable and contributed a great deal to different genres. incidentally, this was also around the time american animation industry started seriously outsourcing their shit to cheaper studios abroad, which could explain this temporary shift, with many of my favorite shows being animated in japan, but with largely more of an international appeal

again, this is a baseline for creative expression, and putting it into context. there was a lot of new stuff going on in that time period, which led to the 80s being very colorful and the 90s being very consistent by riding on the back of the earlier wave of new imagery and expression, but which dissipated in the 2000s and is now largely supplanted by lots of more generic and boring stuff which tends towards being either being really WACKY and dumb (adventure time as a prominent example), remakes of older shows (mlp, tmnt, etc...) or knock-off anime 'because that probably sells'

this is an on-going phase which imo won't end until something drastical happens to uproot the entire animation industry, because it exists as a luxury just like video games and art in general, and a paradigm shift to shift cultural output and influences can go a long way towards making everything fresh and exciting again

let's say, for some reason, american economy collapsed as a result of embargoes as everyone got fed up with their shit, japan got swallowed up whole by an earthquake, and china became a hellhole of mutant degenerates due to them polluting their drinking waters and fucking up their own population

and then suddenly zimbabwe and north korea became the leading world superpowers against all odds, with cyborg mugabe directing anti-gay propaganda animations on his older days as kim jung un took up his father's hobby of movies and became supreme leader of Pyongyangwood

that will never fucking happen but it sure as hell would stir shit up with this stagnant fucking dead-end industry!!!
